West Demerara official charged for using ‘presidential emblem’ on car, other offences
A West Demerara road safety official was on Tuesday granted a total of $100,000 in bail after he was slapped with a series of traffic charges, including using the presidential emblem on his motor car while attending a wedding.

Peter Katahan, 43, a businessman of Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was charged for fraudulent imitation of an identification mark, and driving an unregistered, unlicensed, uncertified, and uninsured motor vehicle.
He pleaded not guilty to all of the offences and was placed on $20,000 bail for each charge when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
According to Police reports, Katahan, who is also a Rural Sergeant and President of the West Demerara Road Safety Association, decided to affix two plastic crowns to his unregistered motor car. He then used the vehicle to transport celebrants of a wedding last Sunday at Hubu, EBE.
The matter has been transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for August 13, 2018.
