West Demerara zone kicks-off tonight at Pouderoyen

The Guinness in the Street Football Tournament will have its third installment in the West Demerara zone which will commence tonight at the Pouderoyen tarmac from 19:00h.

The zone which is a composition of West Coast Demerara, West Bank Demerara

and East Bank Demerara will have six days of exciting football action, comprising 35 teams.

Banks DIH Guinness Brand Manager, Lee Baptiste speaking at the launch at the company’s Thirst Park Georgetown headquarters on Wednesday, expressed confidence that the tournament will continue to be a success considering the influx of teams as compared to last year.

He urged persons to go and support their respective teams while advocating that players exercise discipline and be adherent of match times.

More so, Baptiste was most appreciative of the continued support of Colours Boutique in bring uniformity to the players.

Coordinator Travis Bess explained that 10 games will be played tonight, with two being qualifiers. The other nights will be group matches to determine who play in the knock-out rounds.

The competing teams are: Craig Raiders, Hustlers, Young Warriors, Goed Fortuin, Money Team, Police Force, Jetty, Harmony Ballers, Best Road Ballers, Gas team, Gold Setters, Classic 7, Prospect Jammers, Shattaville Gunners, Golden Warriors, Brother’s United, Westside Starz, Riders, Patentia Street ballers, Goed Intent All Stars, Admiral United, Demerara Speed Boat, ESPN, Samaroo Dam, Agricola, Future Craig, Dekinderen Ballers, Vegea Boys, Westside Ballers, Comfort Ballers, defending champions Show Stoppers and Small Panama.

Bagotstown Ballers, Kitty Hustlers, Bagotstown Warriors and Young Ballers will be engaged in a qualifier to see which team will make it into the main draw.

The teams are competing for a top prize of $450,000 while the losing finalist to the fourth placed team will receive $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.

The other playing days will be Tuesday February 7, Friday February 10, Saturday February 11, Thursday February 16 with the grand finals set for Saturday February 18.

After the completion of this zone, the action will turn to Berbice in the second week of March, with East and West Berbice merging to form one zone.
