West Indies Championships: Spinners seal 214- run win for Harpy Eagles

The Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) pulled off an emphatic 213- run victory over the Jamaica Scorpions, compliments of their spinners, on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the ongoing West Indies Championships 2025.
The tournament’s defending champions had set Jamaica a mammoth 489 run target on Friday afternoon which, surprisingly, after their first- innings collapse, was met with sensible, patient batting from the Jamaicans.
As such, the Scorpions began Day 4 needing 310 more runs for a victory. On the other hand, the Harpy Eagles were in need of 7- wickets to keep their unbeaten run alive.
Though Javelle Glen fell early in the morning, becoming the third victim of Ronaldo Alimohamed’s pace in this session, the Scorpions still looked solid with centurion Kirk McKenzie continuing to improve upon his overnight score of 104.
Mckenzie and Brad Barnes were able to craft a 66- run partnership which saw the latter getting to 25 off 75 deliveries, resulting in Veerasammy Permaul’s first scalp of the day.
From there on out, the spinners continued to bother the Scorpions’ batters, with Permaul and Gudakesh Motie finding favour on the four- day- old surface.
The Guyanese bowlers could finally breathe a sigh of relief when Permaul trapped McKenzie LBW, just three runs short of the 150- mark. McKenzie’s 147 of 249 balls was punctuated by 15 fours and 5 sixes; the best resistance Jamaica showed to the defending champions.
Thereafter, the remaining wickets fell like flies as Motie finished with 4-69 from 25 Overs, Permaul 3-50 from 17 Overs and Alimohamed 3- 42 from 15 overs; to rout Jamaica for 274 in 85 Overs.
As such, the Guyanese were able to seal the 214- run victory.
The Harpy Eagles will head back home, where the will take on the Windward islands Volcanoes in Round 5 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank demerara (EBD) from March 12.
