West MMZ CC topple Georgetown Uprising in U21 friendly game

The Under-21 Team of the West Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club beat their counterparts the Georgetown Uprising by 71 runs in a match played on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the West Meten-Meer-Zorg Community Centre ground, WCD.
In that 35-overs-a-side friendly cricket match, the hosts made full use of the first opportunity they had to engage in action since the COVID-19 lockdown. Winning the toss, MMZ batted first and scored a challenging 236 for 9 in their allotted 35 overs, after initially recording a bad start in which they lost 3 wickets for 5 runs.
Riaz Khan and captain Derick Foo put on a fifth-wicket partnership of 50 runs, with Khan making 53 runs that included 6 maximums and 2 fours before Jeffrey Blair had Foo caught on the boundary for a classy 68, which included 7 massive sixes and 3 fours.
Kevin Latchoo supported with 37, which included 2 sixes and 2 fours; while Jeffrey Blair ended with excellent figures of 5 for 36 from 7 overs.
Georgetown’s new Uprising Under-21 Team in reply scored 164 all out in 24.3 overs. The attractive left-handed opener Ushardev Balgobin top- scored with an even half- century that included 6 sixes and 2 fours; Sunil Joshua chipped in with 33, which included 3 sixes; and Kristoff Shepherd made 18 to round off the innings.
The Georgetown side seemed a bit out-of-touch in the batting department. Despite registering a stellar bowling performance, they could not replicate that performance in the batting department, and were thus unable to attain their target.
Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg, Ricardo Panaram took 2 for 31 and Manoj Dasrat took 5 for 35 from his 6.3 overs to see the team to victory.
