The final score line read 3-2 in favour of the city side but it was no easy task reaching that savoring outcome, as early in the second half they were left shell-shocked by two quick goals.
Trayon Bobb with a spectacular free-kick just on the outskirts of the penalty area entered the first goal for the West Demerara unit in the 15th.
Four minutes later Bobb assisted Jamal Harvey in breaching the defence once more, as Harvey scored his third goal in two matches when he dribbled inside the box then taking aim to the keepers low right hand side, to put the partisan crowd in an uproar.
The tides slowly began to turn in favour of the Tigers as it took an injury time (45+2) header in the first half by Andrew Murray Junior to reduce the lead and salvage any momentum for the second half.
The second half brought immediate success as Linden Picket then headed the equalizer in the 53rd and it all to play for by both teams.
The see-saw match continued but it looked certain for a draw but Jumane Somerset shocked the opponents and their supporters when scored in the 90th+4, snatching a miraculous win for the Tigers.
In the earlier match, between Grove Hi tech and Northern Rangers both sides played to a 1-1 stalemate.
Danzel Crawford was the scorer for Grove in the 45th+2 while Tefon Daley netted for Rangers in 77th.
Matches will continue at the same venue tonight where Santos clash will Pouderoyen from 18:30h followed by Riddim Squad against Police from 20:30h.
Both matches are particularly interesting with three of the teams needing a positive result to stand a chance of qualifying for the knock out phase of the competition. Santos who have not won a game thus far will need maximum points (three for a win) and hope Ann’s Grove loses their remaining match to stand a chance while for Pourderoyen they have already been knocked-out.
The event is being contested in a group round-robin format, with the top two finishers progressing to the quarterfinal round.
The winner of each group will receive $100,000 while the remaining teams will pocket $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 apiece in order of placing.
Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
