Citizens Dianna Deravinne Rajcumar (aide to the Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan) and Phillip Marcus have asked the High Court for the PPP to produce the academic qualifications of Dr Irfaan Ali, the PPP Presidential Candidate. Their reason given was, “Consequent on their constitutional right to vote, they are entitled to know the educational antecedents of the candidates to access, process and interpret along with other information, before deciding to vote for a candidate…”.
By this token, a similar request should be asked of the APNU/AFC candidates who appear to have questionable degrees. Nicolette Henry, for example, is an APNU candidate whose name is often preceded with the title “Dr”. When Ms Henry was questioned about this title recently, she had claimed, “I am a doctor of scholar…at a Laureate University in the US”. Guyanese would like to know if and when Ms Henry has graduated with a doctoral degree, from which university, the university costs and who paid these, how are doctoral degrees granted at that particular university, her area of specialisation, the title of her doctoral thesis, who were her advisors/examiners, etc.
Citizens may also ask the High Court to ask Mr David Granger, the APNU Presidential Candidate, if he and his colleagues have declared their assets as stipulated by the Integrity Commission Act. This information is necessary for citizens to make an informed decision on whether to vote for the candidate or not.
