“Whatever you choose, do it well” – Finance Minister tells JC Chandisingh graduates

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, has urged graduates of JC Chandisingh Secondary School to help them pursue their chosen careers with excellence, while reminding them that their journey does not end with graduation.

Singh delivered the feature address at the school’s annual graduation ceremony on Wednesday, where he congratulated the graduates, teachers, parents, Board of Governors, and the Regional Education Department of Region Six on the school’s performance at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
He noted that JC Chandisingh had surpassed the national average in its pass rates and had expanded its subject offerings to include areas such as theatre arts and religious education.
“Whatever you choose to do, I implore you, and I appeal to you, do it well. Do it excellently. And the rest will take care of itself,” Singh told the graduates.
He encouraged students to pursue careers based on their interests, whether in agriculture, medicine, engineering, data science or nursing.
“If you want to be a farmer, be a farmer. If you want to be a doctor, be a doctor. If you want to be an engineer, you want to be a data scientist. Be a data scientist. If you want to be a nurse, be a nurse,” he said.
Singh also congratulated the parents and students, stressing that the school’s achievements were not only institutional and regional successes but also individual accomplishments.
He said the Government is working to ensure that students can receive a high standard of education regardless of where they live, rather than having to attend a small number of traditional top-performing schools in Georgetown.
“We want you to be able to attend high school in Berbice, in Essequibo, in Linden… in Region Nine, in Region One, in Region Seven or Region Eight,” Singh said.
According to the Minister, the Government’s education programmes are aimed at ensuring secondary schools have adequate spaces and facilities to accommodate students while expanding opportunities in areas including the natural sciences, technical and vocational education, information and communications technology, sports, and other extracurricular activities.

Larger number of students
Headmistress Sabereena Supaul, in her remarks, highlighted the school’s CSEC performance, noting that the number of students writing the examinations had almost doubled this year.
She said the school recorded 100 per cent passes in several subjects.
The school’s top graduate, Sufia Mohamed, secured 12 Grade Ones, six Grade Twos, and one Grade Three. She was followed by Saria Yunas, who wrote 13 subjects and secured 12 Grade Ones and one Grade Three.
Singh also used the occasion to congratulate Region Six on producing Guyana’s top CSEC student for 2026.
Narine, of Tagore Memorial Secondary School, secured 26 Grade Ones and one Grade Two after writing 27 subjects.
Regional Education Officer Satesh Udit also attended the graduation ceremony and delivered remarks.
