Where are we heading?

Dear Editor,
The brutal murder of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lieutenant, Rondel Anthony Douglas seems to escape everyone’s attention because apparently, other incidents seem to capture the public’s interest: Mahdia’s deadly fire, the killing of Smallie, the Local Government Election, the embarrassing allegation of sexual molestation against a Minister.
Whilst it escapes everyone’s attention that a serving member of the GDF chooses an honest ‘side hustle’, his life was barbarically snuffed out for his own property that was giving him an extra dollar. Amazingly, no one seems to care, especially the politicians, who are there to ensure systems are in place to prevent such dastardly acts.
Noticeably, the Opposition dominates social media with their foolish bitterness against the Government, and none seem to have any sympathy for the talented young man to even post any condolences. I guess his life doesn’t matter because his death does not seem to have any ammunition for them to hurl accusations against the Government. Instead, a convicted murderer and escapee attract their attention more.
Editor, the fiasco regarding the young girl and the Minister seem to energise them and they come out in full force with the intention to cause excitement. No seems interested in how the girl reached into such a situation, and neither did any seem interested in coming up with any plans to prevent such or advise others in similar situations to come forward.
In the girl’s revelations, she mentions that her mother was seeking assistance for some issue she was having, but was being pushed around and she foolishly believes the Minister would have been of assistance. Instead, he barbarically allegedly helped himself in a different way.
It is extremely hard for anyone to go anywhere in Guyana for help/assistance and they are not met with various types of barriers. In order for you to get assistance, you would be forced to offer a bribe, perform some sort of sexual favour, be subjected to some form of humiliation, etc.
Why can’t people unite against the injustices being committed against one another and fight against the politicians that put us to fight against one another? The last time I checked, all the politicians are enjoying a comfortable living, receiving a decent salary with benefits and enjoying the ‘prags’ they receive when walking/parading around.
Meanwhile, I’ve to ask, where are we heading?

Sincerely,
Sahadeo Bates
