“Whistle” held for Rio, Warlock murders

An East La Penitence, Georgetown man, popularly known as “Whistle”, who was freed on a 2013 murder charge, is presently being grilled for the murders of Ryan Sergeant, who was shot and killed at the Rio Night Club in September 2016 and that of Andrew Fraser who was gunned down in Warlock in January.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times that the suspect was arrested on Thursday and remains in custody. He confirmed that the man was implicated in the murders of the teenager at Rio and that of Fraser in Warlock.

The suspect was reportedly arrested after he discharged several rounds in agroup residential area. Last year, he was acquitted for the murder of Intaz Roopnarine, who was shot dead at the back of the Cool Square Hotel in Marigold Street, West Ruimveldt.

The businessman, also called “Bobby”, of 169 Mandela Avenue, was shot to his head and relieved of several pieces of expensive jewellery at the time. However, in September last, “Whistle” was wanted for the murder of Ryan “Harry” Sergeant, 19, of Lot 2530 Layon Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The teenager was shot once to the jaw during an exchange of gunfire, which started in the night club and ended outside. In that incident, another young man, Jeffrey Ferrel, was also injured. Meanwhile, with respect to the Warlock murder, the victim, Andrew Fraser, 30, of Lot 565 East La Penitence, Georgetown, was shot at least seven times by two men who exited a motorcar and opened fire.
