Young sprint prodigy Daniel Williams has continued his impressive performances both home and away by qualifying for today’s 400M semi-finals at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World U-18 Championships being held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Williams clocked a personal best of 47.41 to finish second in heat two behind Ethiopia’s Melkamu Assefu (47.23s) and ahead of Panama’s Antonio Grant (47.54s).
The South American Youth Championship Silver medallist will enter the second semi-final heat with the third fastest time. Jamaica’s Anthony Cox (46.53s) who will be running out of Lane and David Sanayek (47.29s) in Lane 3 have faster qualifying times.
It means the Guyanese will have to make good use of his Lane six assignment since the top two finishers and fastest third-placed times will advance to the final slated for Friday at 12:10 hrs.
The other Guyanese athlete at the Games is Chantoba Bright who will be participating in the Long Jump Final on Sunday from 08:35 hrs.
