For the second consecutive weekend Geron Williams finished top of the podium; this time at the inner circuit of the National Park in the sixth annual Payless Variety Store 11-race cycling meet on Saturday.
Williams out sprinted youthful rival Jamaul John in the final stretch of the 35-lap feature race to cross the finish line in record breaking fashion; Williams obliterated Kemuel Moses’ five week old record clocking one hour 12 minutes and 35.42s.
The Foundation rider along with Team Coco’s John stuck with the main pack of riders and together they set out at a frantic pace. In the final lap John jumped the pack with at least 400 yards to go and broke away briefly only for Williams to overpower him at the finish to take the race in dominant fashion.
Third to sixth place went to Silvio Innis, Paul De Nobrega, Christopher Griffith and Curtis Dey. The Prime prizes were shared among De Nobrega, Williams Griffith, John and Paul Cho Wee Nam.
In the BMX Boys and Girls category (12-14 years) Marvin Knights took first while Zab Jamese was second; meanwhile Jaheme Henry was first in the 9-12 years category while Mark Lewis and John Niles were second and third respectively.
Earlier, in the Juveniles race Curtis Dey copped first place while second and third went to Nigel Dugid and Briton John, Dey won the event in 26 minutes and 37.59 seconds.
Meanwhile, Nigel Jacobs and Akram Singh were first and second in that order for the mountain bike race.
