Wilson optimistic of Trojans’ performance when tournament resumes
Andrew Ifill Knockout Basketball Tournament…

The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) decided, on Thursday March 12), to postpone the start of the inaugural Andrew Ifill Knockout Tournament following announcement of the country’s first case of the COVID-19 virus being detected.
Coach of the University of Guyana Trojans team, Warren Wilson, is however confident that when the tournament resumes, his side would dominate the proceedings.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, Wilson was asked how the squad was preparing despite the COVID-19 setback, and he responded as follows:
“Our U21 and Open teams have a good mix of people. Once they keep their minds on (the task ahead), I am confident they can come out on top.
“Unfortunately, when I looked at the fixtures, only one of the U21 teams will stand a chance, because one of the games we will have to play (against) ourselves, meaning ‘UG A’ would battle ‘UG B’.
“But I know that both sides will play with heart, and I know that in the end, as a team, we will do well.”
Wilson noted that despite not being able to practise because of the current pandemic, the players are going out on their own to work on the basics, such as ball handling. He said they are trying to stay as fit as possible and maintain a healthy lifestyle, so the team won’t be lackadaisical when the tournament resumes.
The Andrew Ifill Knockout Tournament will celebrate the life of the late Andrew Ifill, a former national player who passed away last October at age 40. The tournament will be contested in the Open and Under-21 divisions. Eagles, Colts, Sonics, UG-A and UG-B will contest the U21 category; while Guardians, Colts, UG-A, Vikings, Sonics, Pacesetters A and B, Eagles, Kobras and Ravens are down to play in the Open division.
