Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash…

The curtains came down on the Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash Championships at the Georgetown Courts on Sunday afternoon with  Shomari Wiltshire and Makeda Harding producing some of the most dominant performances  throughout the  five-day event.

Wiltshire had a clean sweep of the boys’ under-15, under-17 and under-19 categories  while    Harding was on the verge  of  achieving an identical feat but she fell short to Taylor Fernandes (playing her final year as junior) in the under-19 category.
Wiltshire defeated Daniel Islam in three tough games 11/6, 11/8, 11/7 for the under-19 title while Fernandes outplayed Rebecca Low in the final match winning comfortably in straight games 11/4, 11/5, 11/6.
The final results in the   Girls’ under-11 saw Beau Fernandes securing first while Christiana Fernandes and Isabella Ramjohn came second and third respectively. In the boys under-11 Mohyryan Baksh took the top spot  with Louis Da Silva, Nathan Rahaman and Shiloh Asregado  took third to four place spots.
Over in the under-13 division, Kirstenn Gomes, Paige Fernandes and Haley Carpenter   were the top three girls while Michael Alphonso won  for the boys ahead of Demetrius De Abreu, Ethan Jonas and James Mekdeci.
For the Girls under-15, Abosaide Cadogan came second while Kirsten Gomes and Madison Fernandes came third and fourth respectively; in the boys  Samuel Ince – Carvalhal  was second ahead  of Gianni Carpenter (third) and Lucas Jonas (fourth).
In  the competitive girls under-17, Abosaide Cadogan  had to settle for second with Gomes  in third  and Maya Collins, fourth while in the boys under17 & 19, Dainel Islam and Alex Cheeks rounded off the top three.
The most improved girl when went to  Gomes while Alphonso was given the male award.  Not surprisingly Harding and Wiltshire were voted the most outstanding  girl and boy respectively.

Prizes were presented to all winners by Robert Fernandes representative of the sponsors Woodpecker Products Ltd.
The tournament was the final junior event  before the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships which are scheduled to be held in Guyana from July 1 – 9.
