Wiltshire, Harding take opening day honours

The Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash Championships got underway Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Club Squash Court with top ranked players Shomari Wiltshire and Makeda Harding producing dominant performances.

In boys’ u-15, Wiltshire defeated Jason Gomes [11-1, 11-1, and 11-2] while Samuel Ince-Carvalhal produced a similar achievement against Osmond Mack, winning 11-0, 11-1 and 11-2; Gianni Carpenter and Lucas Jonas also secured wins in that category.

In the girls’ u-15, Harding was explosive, thumping Caribbean junior silver medallist Kirsten Gomes 3-11, 4-11 and 9-11 and Teija Edwards in straight sets.

Louis Da Silva, Mohryan Baksh and Nathan Rahaman secured wins in the boys under 11 category while Ethan Jonas, Michael Alphonso, and Demetrius De Abreu in the boys under 13 category.

The championships, which will be used to select Guyana’s junior squash team to compete in the upcoming Junior Caribbean will continue nightly at the aforementioned venue with the final day being Sunday.
