Win at Guyana Cup secures place at President’s Cup

Colin Ross will be the jockey to beat

The winner of tomorrow’s (August 13) eight-furlong feature event of the Banks DIH Guyana Cup horse-race meeting, which will be held at Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC), and the winner of next month’s President’s Cup meet, will get a secure entry for next year’s Guyana Cup.
This announcement was made on Thursday by the Management team of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) headed by Nasrudeen Mohamed jnr.
Mohamed said, “This race is growing in popularity and interest. More horses are taking entry in this race, and we will definitely have to review the conditions for entry (into) this race, so that the best horses in the country and the Caribbean have a secured entry.”

All eyes will be on Alado tomorrow

Asked if the class of the horses would weigh in favour of horses being entered in the future, and if the winners of other graded races staged at other tracks would benefit from a secured slot, Mohamed responded, “The best horses will have no problem competing in the race. We are preparing to develop the race into the most talked about event in the Caribbean.
“We will be holding discussions with other track owners who stage major races in Guyana, to incorporate this idea of automatic berth in their races. At this time, we cannot confirm for those racing bodies,” Mohamed added. “However, a statement on the decision of other promoters will be announced after our meeting with them.
“All the best to the connections of all the horses in Guyana Cup and the supporting events, and thanks to everyone for making this day not only memorable and successful, but being one of the biggest social events on ONE GUYANA’s sporting calendar.”
