Windjammer, ISG on board 1320 Heat

Windjammer International Cuisine and Comfort Inn, a local hotel and restaurant provider located at 27 Queen Street Kitty, Georgetown, and Industrial Supply of Guyana Inc (ISG), a subsidiary of the Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP) located at Providence, East Bank Demerara, have joined the sponsorship team for the much anticipated “1320 Heat”.

“The 1320 Heat” is an international drag race meet organised by the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC). It is scheduled for staging at the South Dakota Circuit’s Drag Strip on Sunday, August 25th, and there is every expectation that the event “is going to be huge”.
When Windjammer’s Managing Director Carey Griffith presented the GMR&SC with the sponsorship cheque on Wednesday, he told the media, “We are really happy to be back on board again with motorsport. We’ve sponsored circuit racing and endurance racing before, and while this isn’t our first drag racing venture, we believe that this event is going to be huge.”
Windjammer had in the past provided accommodation for foreign racers who had come to Guyana to participate in various events staged by the GMR&SC, including the last international drag race meet.
“Why are we onboard with this?” Griffith asked rhetorically. “We just love racing, especially motorcycles; and like I said before, we feel that it is time we show a little bit more support to racing.”
He spoke of the buildup to the international drag-racing meet billed for later this year, and indicated that Windjammer is already putting together packages for competitors from Suriname.
In brief comments, GMR&SC Executive Committee member Motilall Deodass welcomed Windjammer ‘back into the fold’, and said, “They are undoubtedly a huge part of racing locally. We have always enjoyed a great partnership with them, and this time it’s no different.”
