Popular payment system, WiPay, and its partners will now give scores of Guyanese businesses an opportunity to benefit significantly from its newest online payment solution, which now enables businesses to accept cash payments online without the use of a credit card. This new online service was announced on Wednesday during a press conference at the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel, East Bank Demerara.
Through its partnership with WiPay, Caribbean Airlines now has its new option to purchase airline tickets; this process includes purchasing a Caribbean Airlines ticket over the phone by use of a WiPay Top Up Voucher at any time without having to physically visit the Airline’s office.
Meanwhile, businesses can make and receive payments online by simply downloading the WiPay plugin for free and integrating it onto their website or Mobile App.
Chief Operations Officer (COO) of WiPay, Sacha Thompson, underscored that the introduction of this new online service is game-changing and is financial inclusive as it gives every person the opportunity to benefit from the service. “This is game-changing, this is new, this is financial inclusion because everyone can now access the opportunity… so for 95 per cent of the Guyanese population that do not have a credit card and do not wish to travel, can now in four simple steps purchase a WiPay Top Up voucher….WiPay online merchants can now accept payments with WiPay Top Up vouchers online,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Caribbean Airlines Sales Executive, Deon Inniss expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the new online service in Guyana, while noting that the new project undertaken will benefit the airline significantly since it is more convenient to its customers.
“Now that we are going live, we can tell you that we are extremely excited for this project of ensuring continued customer convenience… I myself have tried it and I can tell you it’s very convenient in particular for Guyanese customers who we know have very much difficulties in terms of access. You no longer need to come to our office, we are particularly happy that this particular facility has been launched and we look forward in finding ways to bring relief to our customers,” Inniss stated.
The ‘cash’ payments online is similar to the mobile ‘Top Up’ culture that exists in the Caribbean. A customer can simply go to any authorised WiPay partner location (eg Bill Express), purchase a ‘WiPay Top Up’ for the required amount. The customer can then use the Top Up’s unique 12-digit code to make a ‘cash’ payment online to any business that uses WiPay’s payment gateway.
Wipay is a next-generation provider of payment solutions, using innovative technology enabling the ‘banked’, ‘unbanked’ and ‘un-carded’ to partake in the online and e-commerce space.
