Wisburg captures title with 2-0 win over McKenzie high

Wisburg Secondary grabbed another championship when they dispatched Mackenzie High by a 2-0 score line to cop the 2016 Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Linden Secondary Schools Under 18 football championship Monday at the Mackenzie sports Club ground.

The final which had to be postponed due to several unforeseen circumstances including unfavourable weather and the passing of Coordinator James Craig final was played and Wisburg emerged victorious through goals from Joel Isaacs and Brentley Allicock.

.While the timing of the goals were unavailable the organiser ensure that wall the prizes promised were handed at the end of the game which was preceded by the third place playoff game between Linden Technical Institute, who came out winners against former champions Christianburg Wismar Secondary by the penalty route 5-4.

Both teams had failed to score in regulation time.

Senior Physical Education officer for Region 10 (Upper Demerara/ Berbice) Lindley Langhorne said the Education department was pleased to be associated with the tournament and was committed to this relationship continuing for the betterment of the sport and youths in the region.

Meanwhile, Christianburg Wismar Secondary (Multi) School rebounded from the defeat for third place in the conclusion of the 2016 tournament on Monday to score a resounding 6-0 win over Harmony as the 2017 ‘Screw’ Richmond tournament kicked off on Wednesday at the MSC ground .John Regis (20th) minute), Omar Williams in the 25th and 36th minutes, Brewley Allicock in the 30th, Terrence Williams the 58th and Andy Major (67th minute) were the scorers for the winners.

The other game on Wednesday saw Linden Foundation Secondary and Linden Technical institute play to a nil all draw.
