– 3 men on the run
A woman was arrested after the police swooped down on a house at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WBD), on Saturday and found a shotgun, ammunition and other items suspected to have been stolen. Police have confirmed that they are on the hunt for three men who are known to them.
Based on reports received, the 20 gauge single-barrel shotgun along with several rounds of live ammunition which were recovered were reportedly stolen from a businessman in the area on April 20.
The discovery was made after Police ranks received reports that several stolen items along with the weapon and ammunition were stashed at a property in the area.
Upon arriving at the property at about 16:00h on Saturday, the gate to the property was locked and the three men who spotted the police approaching the house started to run. Although Police gave chase, the men managed to escape, leaving the woman in the house.
A search was conducted on the house and the yard during which a number of items were found, including the shotgun, binoculars, empty gas cylinders, Xbox console, camera, water pump and cutlasses.
The firearm and ammunition were reportedly found in a bathroom in the yard. However, the woman who was at home during the raid was escorted to the police station where she was questioned but has since denied having knowledge of the items.
Police are continuing their investigations into the incident
