Home News Woman charged for manslaughter after killing abusive husband
The Region One (Barima-Waini) woman who allegedly stabbed her abusive partner to death after he threatened to burn her, was on Friday charged for manslaughter.
Sanda Brescenio, a housewife of Cannaballi Village, Region One, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Delon Bess via Skype.
It is alleged that on April 14, 2020, she unlawfully killed her 35-year-old husband, Clarence Williams.
The court heard on Friday that Williams had threatened to push Brescenio into a fire, which resulted in a heated argument, during which the man choked her.
Reports are that the woman was cleaning fish and allegedly stabbed Williams twice to the groin. According to reports, prior to the incident, Brescenio was at a church service when Williams reportedly demanded that she leave and ordered her to return home to cook.
However, after the stabbing incident, the man went to bed but was later discovered dead.
The police have since confirmed that the man’s body bore three stab wounds.
Magistrate Bess released Brescenio on $300,000 bail. The case will be called again on July 7, 2020, at the Acquero Magistrate’s Court.
