Woman charged with causing death by dangerous driving
…released on $250,000 bail
A 25-year-old woman of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was granted $250,000 bail after she was charged with the death of an elderly woman.
Nandanie Nimar was charged with causing the death of Pulwantie Ramjan, 56, by driving dangerously on October 9 at Lusignan Railway Embankment, ECD.
Nimar appeared last week before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Courts where she denied the charge.
The matter was adjourned to November 30.
Ramjan of Annandale, ECD, lost her life after being struck down and killed while crossing the road at the Lusignan Railway Embankment.
Based on reports received, a motor vehicle with trade plates, KICS-2, driven by Nimar, was proceeding along the Lusignan Railway Embankment when it came into contact with the now dead woman, who was crossing the road.
Ramjan was reportedly flung into the air and subsequently fell onto the road, where she sustained injuries. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were summoned to the scene where they pronounced the 56-year-old woman dead. A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver but there were no traces of alcohol in her system. (G1)
