Woman chopped during family brawl

A woman, her son and reputed husband are now nursing injuries about their bodies following a brawl among themselves at their home in East Bank Essequibo (EBE) on Sunday evening.
One of the woman’s hands was almost severed. She was admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital where she underwent a surgery.
However, Police stated that on the day in question at about 20:45h, the 42-year-old woman, her 29-year-old son and 56-year-old reputed husband were in the lower flat of their home when an argument broke out between the two men.
Police stated that the argument turned into an altercation during which the reputed husband dealt one chop to the woman’s son. Upon seeing this, the woman intervened and acted as a peacemaker but instead, she was chopped to her left hand by her reputed husband.
In retaliation, the woman’s son managed to take the cutlass from the man and dealt him several lashes and chops about his body. The injured trio was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where they were treated.
The woman, who was later identified as Nalini, was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she remains a patient. The two men were discharged into Police custody as investigations continue.
