A hot and sunny Monday turned deadly when 27-year-old Clonbrook resident Keiola Thomas met her demise following a mid-afternoon accident on the Bee Hive Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Thomas had been an occupant in motor car PWW 5851, which was being driven by a male companion, Police Constable Oswin Argyle. Reports are that the
Policeman, a resident of Supply, Mahaica, was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when, at about 14:15h, he lost control of the vehicle, and it rocketed into two Guyana Power and Light utility poles situated on the eastern side of the road before plunging into a nearby canal, where it appeared to be badly mangled.
According to the Police, both parties were rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital with injuries. Thomas was pronounced dead on arrival, while Constable Argyle was treated and sent away.
A breathalyzer test conducted on him, according to Police, gave a negative reading for alcohol. However, he remains in Police custody as the investigations get underway.
