A 24-year-old female of Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) was arrested and is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations into the murder of 27-year-old Amar Jones.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Half Mile Public Road, Wismar, Linden. A motor vehicle has also been seized and is being processed as part of the inquiry.
Preliminary reports indicate that Jones, a driver from One Mile, Wismar, Linden, was travelling in a motor canter along Half Mile Public Road when he was approached by a motor car. An unidentified male reportedly exited the vehicle and fired several rounds at Jones before re-entering the car and fleeing the scene.
Police who responded to the scene found Jones motionless in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He was transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. His body was subsequently taken to G-Jetsco Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, prompting a manhunt to apprehend them.
The investigation remains ongoing.
