Woman, lover on bail for beating her ex-partner

A 27-year-old woman who was reportedly chopped by her 43-year-old ex-boyfriend a few weeks ago was on Wednesday released on $25,000 bail for wounding the man.

Charged: Shemika Greene

When Shemika Greene was arraigned before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Diamond Golden/Grove Magistrates’ Courts, she pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that, on December 13, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Hansel Elgin. She returns to court on January 25, 2022.
Elgin has also been charged with wounding the woman. He, however, did not appear in court, as he is on remand for another offence. The prosecution has since sought an order for his release from prison. He is also expected to appear in court to answer the charge on January 25, 2022.
Green’s current boyfriend, Vikta Rhodes, has also been charged with assaulting Elgin. Like Green, Rhodes pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was placed on bail in the sum of $25,000.
Reports are that Greene was cleaning her yard when she was attacked by Elgin, who was armed with a “jooker” and a sharp object. He reportedly chopped Greene to her head, and she pelted him with a spade. Elgin, according to reports, sustained a cut to his lip, and his dentures were also broken.
Upon hearing the commotion, Greene’s current partner went to her rescue. But he, too, was attacked by Elgin. The couple then reported the matter to the Grove Police Station.
Based on reports, after threats were made to her life by her ex-partner, Greene had taken out a restraining order against Elgin. However, despite that court order, Elgin allegedly continued making the woman’s life a living hell. (G1)
