Woman remanded on narco-trafficking charge

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, on Thursday, remanded a 55-year-old woman to prison for the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Debra Perreira of Ketley and Drysdale Streets, Charlestown, Georgetown, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Particulars of the charge against her stated that on January 26 at Ketley and Drysdale Streets, Charlestown, she had 912 grams of Cannabis sativa in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The woman, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard DaSilva, denied the charge. Perreira was denied bail by the Magistrate, who remanded her to prison until February 21.
On the day in question, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks acting on information, searched Perreira’s home where they found the illicit drug. As such, she was arrested and taken to CANU headquarters. (G1)
