Woman robbed by cutlass-wielding bandits

A man is now in Police custody after the woman that he and his accomplice robbed while wielding a cutlass positively identified him to the Police hours after the crime was committed.
Although quick action by the Police led to the one suspect’s arrest, his accomplice is still on the run. The jewellery and $100,000 which the duo snatched have not been recovered.
This newspaper was told that the robbery occurred at about 01:30h on Saturday morning near Saffon Street, Charlestown, Georgetown. At the time, the victim and her friend were walking home.
According to Commander of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) Sub-division A (Georgetown), Assistant Police Commissioner Edgar Thomas, when the incident took place, ranks in his Division were immediately contacted.
He said that a patrol vehicle in close proximity arrived quickly at the scene. Commander Thomas noted that after receiving a description of the two perpetrators and the direction in which they fled by foot, the ranks gave pursuit. They managed to apprehend one of the suspects. He has since been positively identified by the victim.
Meanwhile, it is believed that the man’s accomplice took the loot. Commander Thomas added that the Police are on the hunt for the second bandit.
