Police on Friday reported that at about 14:45h, a 44-year-old woman who had just left a bank at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was confronted by bandits in front of her Golden Grove, EBD home.
According to Police, enquiries disclosed that as the woman turned onto the bridge to enter her yard, she observed a silver 212 motor car with registration number PNN 6481 stopping at the back of her vehicle and two males, one armed with a black handgun, exited while the driver remained in the car.
The man approached the woman and demanded that she hand over the cash but the woman put up a resistance. This caused one of the bandits to discharge a round in her direction and they then snatched a brown envelope containing the US$1500; GY$290,000, a red iPhone XR and a multi-coloured bag containing a quantity of documents.
The bandits then re-joined the car and drove off.
However, the brave woman did not retreat but rather followed the bandits and as she got closer to them, she managed to brace the car with her vehicle into a nearby drain. Two of the men jumped out of the car and escaped on foot.
Police were called and recovered several documents, a red iPhone XR and $12,990. During a search of the car, several other items were found, including a gold iPhone S, and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone.
In a statement on Friday evening, Police said that after examining the vehicle with registration number PNN 6481, it was observed that registration number PTT 7930 was engraved on the front, back and four glass doors while HC 7472 was seen under the number plate.
The suspect, who was apprehended with the help of public-spirited citizens and handed over to the Police, was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital to seek medical attention. Police are searching for the other two suspects.
