Women’s CG Insurance Super50: Guyana bowled out for 23 as Jamaica storms into final

Jamaica ended Guyana’s ordinary campaign in the second semi-final of the CG Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup at Providence. In a rain-affected game which commenced at 12:00h and was reduced to 38 overs, five-wicket hauls for seamer Chinelle Henry and off-spinner Vanessa Watts rocked Guyana to 23 all out in 11.2 overs.

Opener Mandy Mangru was caught behind off the impressive Henry, who extracted bounce on a moist surface. Toussaint, who is out of form, guided a Watts-delivery to first slip in her two-ball duck. Shemaine Campbelle who played a lovely straight drive to get off the mark, was castled by Henry. A beautiful in-swinger saw Campbelle’s stumps going for a walk at 14-3.
Sheneta Grimmond then spooned one to short mid-wicket at 17-4 while Shabika Gajnabi was trapped for three. While the dark clouds left Providence after morning showers, it was a dark day for the Guyanese Women.

Katana Mentore was then trapped for a 15-ball duck, and things continued downhill. Watts kept her off-spin tight while Henry maintained a good line and length. Tremayne Smartt, Cherry-Ann Fraser, Kaysia Schultz, and Plaffiana Millington were among the seven batters who failed to trouble the scores.
Henry ended with 5-18 in six overs with three maidens, while Watts claimed 5-5 in 5.2 overs with one maiden. In reply, Guyana picked up two wickets as Jamaica ended on 27-2 in 5.1 overs, winning by eight wickets. Rashada Williams was the lone batter to reach double figures in the match with 12. Smartt, who had a good campaign, ended with 1-10 in two overs, while Millington had 1-16. Jodi-Ann Morgan sealed the match with a thumping four, as Jamaica and Barbados will meet in the grand final on Saturday June 25 at Providence. (Brandon Corlette)
