A collective team effort led Trinidad and Tobago to a eight-wicket win against Leeward Islands in the second match of the Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament played at Providence. Trinidad ended on 134-2 in 35 overs, with Reniece Boyce, Shenelle Lord and Anisa Mohammed all contributed with the bat while Kirbyina Alexander claimed 3-20.

Boyce top-scored for the Trinidadians

Earlier, Leeward Islands won the toss and elected to bat first. The Trinidadians made early inroads blowing away the top order with the score on 13-4 after 11.4 overs. The slight shower across Providence could not have saved the Leeward Islands as right-arm seamer Kirbyina Alexander did the damage.
Openers Melicia Clarke made one, while Roasalie Dolabaille made two. Shawisha Hector came and looked good in her 46 from 60 balls. She struck seven fours in her knock, but she ran herself out. Hector and Arsheena Freeman added 52 runs for the fifth wicket, taking the score to 65-5 in 28.5 overs.
Trinidad picked up wickets at regular intervals but Amanda Edwards offered resistance. She struck four boundaries off a Caniesha Isaac-over. She favored the off-side, hitting boundaries through long-off, through extra-cover and over backward point.
While the Leeward Islands looked as though they will get bowled out at one stage, Edwards and Rozel Liburd added 45 runs for the eighth wicket. Liburd was unbeaten on 31 from 39 balls with three fours while Edwards was run out for 29 to take Leeward Islands to 132-8 in 50 overs.
Alexander ended with 3-20 from her ten overs while Isaac, Lee-Ann Kirby, and Anisa Mohammed had one wicket each. In response, opener Reniece Boyce and Djenaba Joseph added 71 runs for the opening wicket to set the tone in the chase of 133.
Boyce played some elegant shots in her 35 from 56 balls which included four boundaries. Her partner, Joseph made 15 from 46 balls. Boyce was trapped leg-before to Edwards while Joseph was bowled all ends uo by skipper Hector at 77-2 in 17.4 overs.
Mohammed and Shenelle Lord ensured no further hiccups as Trinidad chased down the total with 15 overs to spare, and eight wickets in hand. Lord made 30 not out while Mohammed made 20 not out. Jamaica will play Barbados today, Saturday June 18 from 9:30am. Guyana will play Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday at Providence.
