Wong to battle Persaud for u-11 honours

Collin Wong and Dhanesh Persaud will lock racquets in what is expected to be a tight battle today for the for the boys 11 and under championship in the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Junior and Cadet Championships being staged at the National Gymnasium.
Wong defeated Ebo McNeil in straight sets 11-4, 11-0 and 11-5 while Persaud got the better of, Malachi Moore 11-4, 11-6 and 11-9.

In the 11 years and under category for girls which was played on a round-robin format saw Akera Watson win ahead of Jasmin Bellgeny and Samanva Sukhan.
The under-13s are at their semi-final stage Kaysan Ninvalle playing Persaud and Jonathan Van Lange up against Wong. While Wong and Ninvalle drew a bye, Persaud defeated Thuria Thomas 12-10, 11-5, 11-9 and Van Lange unleashing a rampage against Nawraul Nicholas winning 11-0, 11-2, 11-1.
Over in the under-15 division they are placed in their quarter-final stage while the boys 18 and under semi-finals pits Miguel Wong against Jamal Nicholas and Ashish Persaud with Niron Bissu.
In the under-9 category which was played on Friday, Moore and Watson took the honours. Moore defeated Jonathan Cox 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 and Case Outar 11-5, 11-6. His route continued by making light work of work Zammani Johnson (11-2, 11-3); in Outar’s second outing against Moore he lost went down 6-11, 3-11.
McNeil secured second place with three points while Cox came third. Over in the girls’ division, Watson was followed by Bellgeny and Quanna Torrington for the top three spots.
