Wood Pecker Products, Farfan & Mendes team up for Hockey League
–Exciting 1st division games begin today
The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) has teamed up with title sponsors of the men’s division, Farfan and Mendes and title sponsors of the women’s division, WoodPecker Products to host the 1st division outdoor league which kicks off today at St. Stanislaus College Ground, Carifesta Avenue..
The Guyana Hockey Board is ‘making hay while the sun shines’ with their third outdoor tournament for the year so far
This tournament comes on the heels of the conclusion of the GHB’s Under 18 and Second Division (outdoor) Hockey tournaments and will see the commencement of four weeks of non-stop action of first division outdoor hockey.
This signals a comeback of the tournament after an absence of two years.
On the Men’s side, Farfan and Mendes is the proud sponsor as this year marks the 30th year they have sponsored the First Division Men’s Outdoor Hockey League.
This year will see four teams; Bounty GCC, Pepsi Hikers, Old Fort and first timers Saints Hockey Club compete for the championship title, starting with a faceoff between Pepsi Hikers and Old Fort at St. Stanislaus College Ground.
Wood Pecker Products First Division is set for its second run of the Women’s league with the first match on Saturday afternoon bringing together Pizza Hut GCC and Old Fort at St Stanislaus Ground.
This year’s participants include Pizza Hut GCC, GCC Spartans, Woodpecker Hikers and Old Fort Shooting Stars.
Games will have (4) four 15-minute quarters for both the Men and Women leagues. After two rounds, the teams on top of the points standings will be declared the winners of the respective categories. Games will be played on Monday and Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will take place GCC and St Stanislaus ground.
