Work on Sport Policy recommences

Guyana’s National Sport Policy has, for years now, been a highly anticipated document that would allow for better conditions and best practices for the nation’s shining stars in the sports arena.
However, five years after it had been promised by the previous APNU/AFC Administration, the policy is nothing but a draft document. In this light, and considering the fact that many stakeholders were left out of the first process, consultations on the Sport Policy have reconvened.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr

“We’ve got to do our Sports Policy. That’s happening right now,” Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, announced on Tuesday while speaking on the sidelines of the commemoration of the Cubana disaster. “We can get this done in three weeks, if we really were to put our minds towards it; but it would exclude a lot of people in the process. It would also exclude a lot of organisations, we don’t want to do that; we want to ensure that the process involves as many people as possible.”
The subject Minister for Sport went on to disclose that the consultations would begin on Wednesday and the focus areas of such.
“So, tomorrow (Wednesday), as an example, we start our second round of I guess consultation, but it’s really engagement of the sports associations. What we’re doing there is having working sessions so that we can start to frame our mutual goals and how we can improve the overall management of their various associations and overall sports development,” Ramson explained.
