Works for the $123 million Supenaam Waterfront Enhancement Programme has commence in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
According to Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Councillor Arnold Adams, the project will be a boost for Region Two, with modern facilities such as a departure and arrival lounge, a ramp for persons with disabilities, a tourism booth, neatly built and organised stalls for vending, a car park, concrete drains and the resurfacing of roads in the area.
Councillor Adams, who is also the President of the Supenaam Speed Boat Association, said all arrangements are in place to facilitate the construction. Passengers using the speed boat service are now using the Supenaam Market
entrance to the farmers’ wharf to access the speed boat service. Additionally, temporary arrangements are in place for hire cars and minibuses which operate in the area. Adams noted that the road has now changed to accommodate only one-way traffic to avoid a traffic hazard and G Division (Essequibo coast-Islands) Police are controlling the smooth flow of traffic in the area on a daily basis.
A monitoring body was formed by the Regional Democratic Council to overlook the project, which is headed by the acting Regional Chairperson, Nandranie Coonjah, representatives of the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Supenaam Speed Boat Association among others. Construction of the facility in being undertaken by Doodnauth Samaroo Contracting Service and is expected to be completed in December.
