The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC), M.S, on Sunday last specially honoured West Indies 20/20 female players Shemaine Campbelle and Tremayne Smartt for being members of the victorious World Cup squad.
President David Granger, who is Patron of the Club, along with immediate past Patron Beverly Harper joined members of the club to honour the duo of making the Ancient County of Berbice proud.
Campbelle, a member of the RHTY&SC, M.S, received an airline ticket to the United States of America, compliments of Caribbean Airlines and also received a gold medallion from the RHT Female team official sponsor, Metro Office and Computer Supplies.
Smartt, a member of the Tucker Park Cricket Club, and Campbelle received a large trophy and an airline ticket to the U.S.A., compliments of a Berbice businessman, who wishes to remain unknown.
Ansa McAl Trading’s Chief Executive Officer, Beverly Harper, presented special hampers to two champions and also disclosed that the duo would be unveiled shortly as the official faces of the company’s “Act as a Girl” promotion on billboards and television advertisements. Harper encouraged the attentive cricketers to remain focus to always strive for excellence.
Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, praised Campbelle and Smartt for being perfect sport ambassadors and stated that the RHTY&SC, M.S, was proud to honour them. Female cricket, the veteran cricket administrator noted, needs special attention from all administrators across Guyana as too few females are involved in the game at the club level.
Foster praised Caribbean Airlines and the other donor for the North American tickets and for the major role they played in honouring the female cricketers. The Secretary/ CEO, whose work at the club was praised by Club Patron, President Granger, urged the two cricketers to maintain discipline at all times and to remain humble despite how successful they become in life.
President Granger congratulated Campbelle and Smartt on their personal achievements of being world champions and stated that Guyana was proud of them.
The Head-of-State also complimented RHTY&SC, M.S, for honouring the duo as it is important to recognise the country’s heroes. Both Campbelle and Smartt, in invited comments after the ceremony, expressed gratitude to the club for honouring them and stated that the presence of President Granger made the event more special for them.
Campbelle presented a souvenir cricket bat with the signatures of the West Indies female 20/20 team, while Beverly Harper and Avie Lindee received a West Indies player’s shirt.
