The People’s Progressive Party/Women’s Progressive Organisation on Saturday awarded 15 students of Industry, East Coast Demerara, who performed exceptionally well at the 2018 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
The event, which has been hosted for the past six years, seeks to show appreciation for, and act as a motivator, for the students of the area to excel.
Some of the recipients of the bursary were Davin Balgobin, Premraj Singh, Nadia De Santos, Shaahid Haniff, Saif Khan, Kerrie Singh, Kimberly Mohamed, Samicah Persaud, Sophia Bahadur, Ambika Behari and Alex Bento. Thes students were all presented with trophies and other tokens which were donated by persons in the said community.
Delivering her feature address was Devia Jagoo, who was one of the first recipients of the bursary. She expressed gratitude to the WPO for their generosity before encouraging the students to focus on their education as they progress onwards.
Melissa Sawh, also a recipient of the award, also spoke at the event where she gave the young students a ‘pep talk’ on how to continue to excel. “For you to become successful, it depends on yourself.”
She also congratulated the students and encouraged them to continue to pursue greatness.
