Over the weekend the Liberty Lions handed Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Cub their first loss of the NYNCL 30-over tournament.
This was thanks to the batting efforts of Guyanese Bhaskar Yadram and Assad Fudadin, whose all-round brilliance also helped seal the win.
Batting first, Meten-Meer-Zorg were bundled out for 169 in 28.3 overs. Top-scoring was Looknauth Chinkoo (33), supported by Andy Mohammed (23); Navin Stewart (23) and Kelvin Shewprashad (24). Bowling for Liberty were Avo Singh (3-19); Andrew Tomby (2-53); Kevin Ramdeen (2-13) and Fudadin (2-38). Yadram was economical in his spell as he bowled his six overs for 31 runs at an economy rate of 5.17.
Needing 170 to win, the Liberty Lions cruised to their target with great ease. At the top of the order Fudadin contributed a handy 34 while Yadram carried the game over the line, remaining unbeaten on 67 off 56 deliveries, inclusive of three boundaries and four maximums. The Lions ended on 170-4 in 23.5 overs, Yadram was adjudged the Man of the Match.
