An accident along the Coldingen Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Tuesday has left 58-year-old Catherine Hinds from Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, dead.
Based on reports received, motor car PRR 2713, which was at the time being driven by a 65-year-old male of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke–Linden Highway, was proceeding along the Coldingen Public Road at a fast rate of speed, and while negotiating a left turn, the driver reportedly lost control and collided with minibus PAH 3379, which was proceeding west in the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, Hinds, who was seated in the back seat of the motor car, sustained injuries. She was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where she succumbed while receiving medical attention.
The driver of motor car PRR 2713 was also taken to the same hospital for medical attention. In addition, four occupants of the minibus were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where a 30-year-old male of Charlestown, Georgetown, and a 27-year-old male of North East La Penitence, Georgetown, were admitted as patients suffering from injuries to their heads. They are said to be in stable condition.
However, a breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the minibus revealed no traces of alcohol in his system.
