The fire which destroyed the Brahma Kumaris Yoga Centre in Kingston, Georgetown, was electrical, according to Fire Chief Marlon Gentle.

Gentle said they came to that conclusion based on their investigations.
The two-storey building housed the Yoga Centre – a worldwide spiritual movement dedicated to personal transformation.
Guyana Times understands that the flames erupted around 04:00h on February 29, while two sisters, Parbattie Singh and Usha were in the building meditating when the fire erupted. However, they both managed to escape in the nick of time after realising that the building was engulfed.
Firefighters who responded to the scene, managed to save only part of the building’s lower flat since the raging fire quickly demolished the upper flat.
A few chairs and tables which suffered just water damage were the only things salvageable from the bottom flat.
