Young businessman killed in WCD accident

Young businessman, 28-year-old Vijai Sankar of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, lost his life in a car accident, which occurred at Uitvlugt on the West Coast of Demerara.

The incident occurred during the wee hours of Boxing Day. Sankar was driving a Range Rover at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. Reports are the vehicle slammed into a utility pole and then into a concrete fence at Uitvlugt.
Sankar received severe injuries and was pulled from the mangled vehicle – PWW 9100 – by members of the Guyana Fire Service. He was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious condition but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking with this newspaper, Ramdat Sankar, the father of the dead man, said that it was an unfortunate situation.

“My son should have been given another chance, he is not a drinker and what happened was unfortunate,” the grieving father stated.
Sankar further added that his son was heading over to his mother’s house when the incident occurred.
“He was washing he vehicle and we gaffing and so and he said he going by he mother and he left and that was it,” the father told this publication with tears in his eyes.
Sankar has become the latest road fatality. As of December 27, a total of 121 persons lost their lives as a result of accidents – a figure which surpassed the total number of traffic fatalities in 2018.
Already for 2019, the police have recorded some 123 road fatalities.
