Young father charged for armed robbery

A 23-year-old father of two, who hails from Rasville, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday on an armed robbery charge.
Phillip English was slapped with three charges, all of which he denied when they were read to him by Magistrate Dylon Bess.
The allegation stated that on February 10, 2020, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while being armed with a dangerous weapon – a gun – he robbed Chatram Sookram of one CG motorcycle valued $340,000. Meanwhile, another charge detailed that on March 16, 2020, at Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, while being armed with the said weapon, he robbed Loraine Edward of one gold chain valued $85,000.
The final allegation read that on March 21, 2020, while being armed with a gun, English robbed Cleveland Glasgow of a cellular phone valued $71,000.
In a submission to the court, Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to bail being granted based on the serious nature of the charge. The court heard that one of the virtual complainants in the matter was injured during the attack by the repeat offender.
As such, the accused was remanded to court and will make his next court appearance on May 30, 2020.
