Police on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) have launched an investigation into an allegation that a resident of Den Heuvel Soesdyke, EBD, is attacking, beating and robbing young people in the village and surrounding areas.
An angry resident expressed fear of having their kids walk alone, with the possibility of them being robbed or hurt in the process.
Guyana Times understands that just recently the man allegedly punched a 10-year-old girl in her stomach, after which he took her money and mobile phone.
Regional Commander Kurleigh Simon, when contacted, explained that he only learned of the issue on Tuesday, and explained that the robberies were not reported to the police.
Simon said after hearing of the incident, he instructed ranks at Timehri to “look into it.”
“The Regional Chairman was also involved, and we are looking into it… If persons are with information of that nature, then they should come forth to the police,” he said.
The Commander further underscored they are in the process of locating the suspect with the intention of interrogating him about the accusations.
“We are trying to locate the young man to know what directions we will go with.”
The Commander, however, promised to make every effort to have the issue sorted as soon as possible.
