Young Warriors defeat Everest by 202 runs

The management of the Young Warriors Cricket Club has embarked on a programme to arrange matches against fellow clubs and the Club’s Under-17 Team on Sunday last played their counterparts from the Everest Cricket Club from Georgetown, and crushed them by 202 runs in a highly-impressive display.
Playing at Cumberland Ground in Canje, the hosts, batting first after winning the toss, amassed a massive 297 for 7 off their allotted 40-Overs. Jeron France and Ricardo Ramdehol added 28 for the first wicket before the latter was trapped leg before for 10.
France was run out for 18 at 53 for 2 before Carl Gilgeous and Garfield Benjamin added 140 for the third wicket in a high-class partnership. Garfield Benjamin, 64; Alex Algoo, 58; Gilgeous, 66; and Jevon Schultz, 38, were the principal scorers as the Everest bowlers were put to the sword. Renaldo Mohamed, with 3 for 67 from 8 overs, and Brandon Ramnarine, with 2 for 12 from 5 overs, were the main bowlers for the visitors.

In response, Everest Cricket Club were given a 24-run opening stand by Aaron Beharry and Renaldo Mohamed before Romeo Retimer dismissed Beharry for 10. There was no other significant partnership as Everest were bowled out in 35 overs for a paltry 95. R Mohamed (14); A Tilku (13); and C Balgit (12) were the only batsmen, along with Beharry, to reach double figures. Bowling for Young Warriors Cricket Club, Zeynul Ramsammy took 4 wickets for 12 runs and Joshua Bacchus 3 for 31. Romeo Retimer, Abdul Ramsammy, and Leon Swamy all claimed one wicket a piece.
Young Warriors Cricket Club Secretary and Cricket Manager Carl Ramsammy expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Under-17 Team, and disclosed that more matches would be arranged for the Young Warriors Under-13, Under-15 and Under-19 teams.
