Young Wazim recognised after viral CPL catch

Fifteen-year-old cricketer Wazim Ali has received recognition for the spectacular one-handed catch that drew widespread attention during Wednesday evening’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and Saint Lucia Kings at Providence.
Wazim, a member of Malteenoes Sports Club, was met by Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport Steven Jacobs, who presented the youngster with cricket gear and GAW polo shirts on behalf of President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
The young leg-spinner was accompanied by his mother, Sumintra Ali, during the meeting.
Wazim’s connection to Malteenoes made the occasion particularly significant, as Jacobs serves as Vice President of the club, where he also began his own cricketing career.

The Minister commended the youngster for his talent and determination while encouraging him to remain focused on his education and continue making his mother proud. Jacobs also stressed the importance of discipline as Wazim continues his development in cricket.
The teenager’s remarkable catch has quickly become one of the talking points from the Warriors’ home match, highlighting the opportunities available to young cricket enthusiasts who participate in match-day activities.
Wazim’s journey at Providence has been especially noteworthy, having previously performed ball-boy duties before finding himself in the spotlight with a catch that captured the attention of cricket fans across Guyana.
The youngster was also scheduled to make an appearance in the commentary booth during last night’s CPL action, adding another memorable chapter to what has been an eventful week for the aspiring cricketer.
