A 21-year-old man was injured after the car he was driving slammed head-on into a truck along the Versailles Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD), in the wee hours of Sunday.
The inured young man has been identified as Navindra Persaud of La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD. The accident reportedly took place at about 03:15h.
According to Police, the motor car was speeding along the roadway and as the young man attempted to overtake another vehicle, he ended up in the path of the lorry, which was proceeding in the opposite direction. This resulted in a head-on collision.
The driver of the car was seriously injured and was picked up by the Police and public-spirited persons in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he was treated and admitted a patient
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the truck but there was no trace of alcohol in his system. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
Only a week ago, 24-year-old Oneisha Stellingburg of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex following an accident along the Moblissa Public Road, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
It was reported that the young woman was speeding along the highway when she lost control of the vehicle which topped several times before coming to a halt.
The young driver was pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state and taken to hospital where she was treated for severe head injuries. However, owing to the severity of the injuries, she was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted.
