A man was remanded to prison on Friday after he was charged with robbery with aggravation. Jomaul Brown, 24, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Robbery accused
Jomaul Brown

Brown denied the charge which stated that on August 3, at Regent Street, Georgetown, while in the company of another, he robbed a woman of an iPhone, cash, and other items to the total of $800,000, while assaulting her.
Brown was granted $300,000 bail with instructions to report to the Criminal Investigations Department until the hearing and determination of his trial.
The Police prosecutor related that on August 3, the woman was travelling in a motor car along Regent Street when Brown and another man intercepted the vehicle, and forcefully opened the driver’s side door. While assaulting the woman, they relieved her of the items mentioned in the charge and fled the scene.
According to the prosecutor, the matter was reported and Brown was subsequently arrested and positively identified by the Virtual Complainant. He was found in possession of some of the stolen items, the prosecutor disclosed. However, the robbery accused’s lawyer rejected the prosecutor’s assertions. He returns to court on September 3.
In a separate case before the Chief Magistrate, Sherlyn Bourne was released on $30,000 bail after pleading not guilty to two charges – one count of assault and one for threatening language. She is alleged to have committed the offences against Donette James on July 23 at Laing Avenue, Georgetown. (G1)
