The Zeeburg Cricket Club, which had recorded much success in 2019, played their first match of 2020 — a T20 affair against the Tuschen Cricket Club at the Tuschen cricket ground over the weekend — and from all appearances, their good run of form continues.
Taking first strike, Zeeburg recorded a score of 199-2 in their allotted 20 overs. They were led by a brilliant century from Balbinder Shivpersaud, who immediately stole the show with four maximums and 14 boundaries in his innings of 112.
Chipping in at the back end of the innings, Ronaldo Renee contributed 35 to this superb total.
Needing a mammoth 200 runs for victory, the Tuschen side — led by Jake Rambharose, who made 64 — started off with flare, and were competitive to the extent that at one stage they needed only 40 runs from six overs for the win; but Yutesh ‘Avi’ Dhanpaul came on the attack and returned figures of 3-15 to restrict Tuschen to 177-8.
Supporting Dhanpaul, Ushardeva Balgobin took 3 wickets for 36 runs.
