Zeelugt woman slapped with narco trafficking charge

Roxanna Burnett of Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was granted bail after she denied a charge of trafficking in narcotics when she appeared before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The woman was busted with 358 grams of cannabis on June 2, 2017. In court on Wednesday, Attorney Bernard Da Silva during a bail application told the court that the alleged narcotic was found in a yard, adding that his client was not in physical control of the any narcotic, moreover, she exercised no control over the plot of land where the narcotic was allegedly found.
The court heard that the prosecution’s file is still incomplete. The Magistrate released Burnett on $200,000 bail and the case will continue on July 21.
