The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has launched an investigation into the allegation that a number of its soldiers raped a teenage girl at one of the country’s military bases.
The GDF in a statement late Monday evening, said it is in receipt of an allegation of rape against three of its ranks.
A Board of Inquiry has since been convened to ascertain the facts and to determine whether the crime was committed.
The statement added that the soldiers are assisting the Police with their investigations.
The army used the opportunity to reaffirm that it “remains committed to the preservation of law and order, and will deal condignly with all transgressors.”
