A 24-year-old man is now in Police custody for allegedly raping a teenage girl while holding her at gunpoint at Arakaka, Barima, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini). The incident reportedly occurred on February 8.
Based on initial reports, on the day in question, the young man sexually assaulted the teenager while he used an unlicensed .32 Beretta Pistol to threaten her.
After he was arrested, the suspect led Police to a location at Arakaka, Barima where he handed over the firearm but there were no matching ammunition.
The case file is being compiled to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice at the earliest.
Only on Wednesday, four men were charged for raping a 20-year-old woman from Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
She was allegedly gang raped on February 13, by three men from the Potaro area. It was reported that about two weeks ago, the woman was raped by another man from her community. It was confirmed that both matters were reported to the Police and an investigation was immediately launched.
The trio involved in the second incident of rape was placed on bail while the fourth suspect was remanded.
